Flt Sgt Alec Aspden joined the RAF in 1986 as an Air Defence Technician, serving at RAF West Raynham on 85 Squadron Squadron Bloodhound SAM. Following a short tour in Cyprus at RAF Troodos he was selected for Air Engineer in 1991, and after training was posted to RAF Lyneham. During the following 7 years with 70 Squadron he operated the Hercules aircraft in the route, transport support and NVG/TALO roles and went on to become the Air Engineer Flying Instructor. In 2000 he became an instructor on the Dominie at the Navigator and Airman Aircrew School at RAFC Cranwell. He was a flight engineer on the Lancaster with the BBMF.
